MR. COMBS

Larry Denham Combs, 79, of Maysville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Cold Spring Transitional Care in Cold Spring, Kentucky after a long illness.

He was born in Maysville on October 30, 1943, to the late Howard Curtis Combs and Zena Beatrice Moreland Combs.

He attended Maysville High School. While in school, he caddied at the Maysville Country Club—a job and a place he absolutely loved. After leaving school, he joined the United States Army where he was stationed at Ft. Hamilton, New York; Nancy, France; Ft. Huachuca, Arizona; Ft. Hood, Texas; and Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He served 18 years honorably and distinctly for the country he loved. His happy place was being out on the golf course, spending time with his friends and family, watching the Cats, and especially dancing at the Eagles Club. He had previously worked as a fireman and EMT for the Maysville Fire Department and was a deputy jailer at the Mason County Detention Center.

He is survived by two daughters, Carin Combs McFarland and Judy Sexton, both of Augusta, Kentucky; three grandsons, Kyle Boswell of Alexandria, Kentucky, Justin (Fallon) Boswell of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, and Logan McFarland of Augusta. He was also blessed to have his first great-granddaughter, Georgia Grace Boswell. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Combs and Dottie Adair, both of Maysville; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Davis Combs of San Antonio, Texas, and Nancy Austin Combs of Frankfort, Kentucky. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews, Don Combs, Jr., Susan Lay and Gregory Combs and family, all of San Antonio, Texas, and Meredith Combs and family of Austin, Texas, and Andy (Julie) Combs and Chris Combs, all of Frankfort, T.C. (Kasey) Rice, Michelle (Darrell) Kalb, Alexa Combs Watson and Christina Combs (Zach) Moran, all of Maysville, and Candice (Oral) Taylor of Ocala, Florida. He also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Ronald, Donald, Gene, and Johnnie Combs; sisters-in-law, Karen Hay Combs and Rita Jordan Combs; and two special nephews, Larry Edward (Little Larry) Rice and David Wayne Combs.

There will be a special memorial service to be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the Laurel Oaks Golf Course in Maysville, Kentucky. The service will begin at 11:00 AM with visitation an hour prior to the service. Pastor Blosser will be conducting the service.
